The Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren

Formally, the ECCB is a member of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches - they are cousins of the PCUSA.  Yet, the ECCB is also in a unique place that is important to the PCUSA.  It has ties to the very birth of Protestantism in the place of the Bethlehem Chapel in Prague whose founding document in 1391 announced that "the Word of God should not be bound, but, on the contrary, its preaching in his Holy Church should be above others most free."  (Prague; May, 24, 1391) and in the personage of Jan Hus, the great reformer who was martyred in 1415.   In the modern era, the ECCB endured the oppression of Nazi control then Communist oppression.  Now, they are seeking to find their way within a highly secular society, asking what it means to be the church in a new day of political freedom yet secular assumptions.  The ECCB is grounded in faith, deep within a rich cultural history and seeking to be faithful.
